Every soloist has their own take on the equipment they use.  This can vary from traditional materials to the new cutting edge synthetic's produced by today's top gear manufacturers.  The one current theme among most solo trippers is that their equipment must work under the most stressful of conditions.  There's no room for failure when you're alone and miles from anywhere.  Bottom line; use gear you trust.  You're putting your life in the hands of your tools.  Make sure they're of the highest quality you can afford!

"Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountain is going home; that wildness is necessity; that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of life".

John Muir

"We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect".

Aldo Leopold

"I have never found a companion that was so companionable as solitude. We are for the most part more lonely when we go abroad among men than when we stay in our chambers. A man thinking or working is always alone, let him be where he will".

Henry David Thoreau
