Wilderness First Aid:  Making sure you know what to do in the case of an accident, is the most important factor in surviving it.  Being able to diagnose problems such as Diarrhea, hypothermia and dehydration is also just as important as knowing how to deal with it.  Go into the bush armed with the knowledge of being able to overcome most challenges.  A great idea is to take a weekend wilderness first aid course.  These courses are usually run out of local college's, are relatively inexpensive and can save your life!

Carrying a complete first aid kit is a must when you head out solo.  We've put together a list of suggested items to carry.  Of course this is just guideline and you'll want to add or subtract to it as you see fit.  Your "personalized" kit will vary depending on the region your traveling in and the duration of the trip.

"Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountain is going home; that wildness is necessity; that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of life".

John Muir

"We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect".

Aldo Leopold

"I have never found a companion that was so companionable as solitude. We are for the most part more lonely when we go abroad among men than when we stay in our chambers. A man thinking or working is always alone, let him be where he will".

Henry David Thoreau
