Sometimes that is not when you think it is. I did a last week of September paddle there and suggest you avoid the weekend.
I got the last site on Lows after coming out of Lila. It was frustrating after those portages to have to search all of the lake.
Oswegatchie can be underused in the summer. On a Thursday in July there was little activity in the parking lot.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. As I am retiring the end of June this year, I'm looking forward to those non weekend, non school break outings.

The ice is out and my usual daytripping canoe beckons to get on the water!
At least this year it stayed put. Two years in a row it jumped off the dock and floated downlake when I went to get a paddle.

no real solo trips for this year, just lots of little ones....
hmmn.. unfortunately most of my trips are in small groups - usually 4-8 people, although we all paddle solo boats, kayaks or open boats depending upon location... trips so far that i know of: 1 week in algonquin, 2 4 day trips to madawaska river (usually stay at palmers rapids and do day trips from there, spring and fall), georgian bay (down key river to the bay), a french river trip, multiple overnighters spread over the spring and fall down in PA on the clarion, a few days at one of the finger lakes (forgot which one), possibly a 2 week trip on the upper madawaska...
since i'm unemployed and currently in school, my solo trips this year will be limited - many weekends at the allegheny reservoir in PA, probably 1 or 2 weekends on the alleghey river islands near warren and tionesta, more than likely some solo overnights on the clarion river (can hike back to car, no shuttle needed).... i would like to spend at least a week or two at the adirondacks when im on break from school - but, i want to avoid the crowds... if the water levels work out, i would like to do a 2 or 3 nite trip on Pine Creek in PA (i love the Grand Canyon of PA)... and , i'm really hoping to get at least 4 or 5 days solo in georgian bay (again, down key river to the bay) at some point in time....
unfortunately, i don't see much happening this year for real solo trips though - just a bunch of weekend trips to try to keep my sanity.... oh well, the joys of being unemployed.. all the time in the world to do stuff, but no cash to do anything.... but worth it i hope, i'll have the piece of paper that says i can do what ive been doing all my life... And, i just took a part time job with a rafting company - which will ruin a few weekends... so, no real solo trips this year, just lots of little ones to keep going!
i'm one of those people who NEEDS to get away from others to keep my sanity... whether it be paddling (preferably) or backpacking.... I'm solitary by nature and a borderline hermit... but then again, aren't we all?

My trips
I have my ritual spring trip on the Clearwater in Saskatchewan & Alberta planned starting 22 May for two weeks (the low rumble you hear in the background is the Cree river trying to change the plan) logisticaly the difference is only money between the two trips. The Cree would be about a 5k hit to the bank balance as it is a fly in fly out trip, by then I may be so freaked out I may not care about the money. Every thing else will be tandem right now, a trip on the Thoa,Tazin, Thekultili rivers in the NWT is planned.

Yellowcanoe, what exactly is that red-hulled canoe sitting on the dock?

Loon Works Aria.

Loon Works makes a set of boats in various sizes, all cedar planked and dacron covered ranging in incrememtal steps from 11 to 15 feet.
LW currently on hiatus. Sometimes used ones show up on p net and more often WCHA.
Closest commercial version to that boat is the WildFire.

Heading up to Grindstone PP on May 19. I booked a couple of days off work to make it an extra long weekend. I am going to take a look at my cottage lot, clear some brush, but I think I will be taking out my kayak and check out the islands in the area.

All plans and expectations are for a 71 day solo of the Columbia river beginning at Canal Flats, B.C. and ending at Astoria, Oregon. If anyone has any experience of any portion of this river please share suggestions, recommendations or other pertinent advice.

While engaged in career-resurrection...and aside from saving for a solo....just renting now & then to do day paddles throughout the N to NE_of_Moosehead corridor.
